We’re Among the Best in the Nation!

Cal Mock Trial has a long history of excellence. We have been a constant presence at the National Championship Tournament since our founding in 1999, and consistently rank in the top 20 out of over 700 teams. Our current members and alumni include some of the top college-level attorneys and witnesses in the country.

Professional Experience

Competing on a nationally prominent team and strategizing on complex case problems helps members gain confidence, critical thinking skills, and problem-solving experience. In addition to invaluable public speaking skills, members learn how to conduct themselves in a professional setting — be it hosting tournaments or collaborating with university professors and attorneys.

Beyond being a prominent and active member of the national mock trial scene, Cal Mock Trial also prides itself on its strong involvement with the local legal and educational community.  From collaborating with Boalt Law students for moot court competitions to serving as judges and mentors in the local high school mock trial community, Cal Mock Trial has established a tradition of team volunteer initiatives and community service.

Leadership Experience

As one of the few entirely student-managed collegiate mock trial programs in the nation, Cal Mock Trial provides ample opportunities for teammates to develop leadership skills

Positions on the program's Executive Committee provide members with the opportunity to gain hands-on experience to develop skills such as business administration, event planning, recruitment, large-scale event management, public relations and marketing, public service, accounting, education, and more.

Students also have the opportunity to act as team captains for portions of the year, gaining valuable leadership and people skills within the competitive setting.

Our Illustrious Alumni

We can proudly say our alumni network spans all across the world with placements at Berkeley Law School, Harvard Law School, Yale Law School, Cambridge University, and beyond.

Friendship <3

CMT is a tight-knit community! Beyond practices and competitions, we regularly hold social events and annual retreats for all members. Incoming members are assigned a big in the program to help navigate both CMT and Berkeley.

Members also have the unique opportunity to travel as a team, competing at tournaments across the nation. In the past, teams have traveled to Chicago, DC, Las Vegas, Texas, and Arizona, as well as road tripped to UCLA, UCI, and UC Davis.
